A custom straw hat is a natural straw, wide-brim hat with your logo on a badge at the front. It's one of the simplest branded items to get right for a summer event or an outdoor team: one size, one decoration position, and a look people are happy to keep wearing after the day is over.
What's in our custom straw hat
Our custom straw hat listing describes the hat like this:
- Genuine straw, in a natural colour
- Wide brim with black trim
- Black chin cord with a slide toggle
- Elastic sweatband, one size fits most
- Listed as UPF50+
- Your custom badge in one position, with an artwork area up to 10 cm wide by 6 cm high
It's sold in packs, and the pack sizes are shown on the listing.
Where branded straw hats earn their keep
Race days and polo. A straw hat often sits better with a race-day dress code than a cap, and a sponsor's or syndicate's logo on the front makes a group easy to spot in a crowd.
Weddings and private functions. For outdoor ceremonies, a straw hat with the couple's initials or a simple monogram gives guests shade and a keepsake.
Field days and agricultural shows. Exhibitors stand out on the stand, and a hat is the kind of giveaway people take home and wear.
School and sport carnivals. Houses, clubs and committees use them for officials, volunteers and canteen helpers. If your school has a sun-safety policy that specifies a hat style, check it first, because some policies name a particular brim or style.
Summer promotions. Product launches, beach activations and giveaways at outdoor events.
Staff who work outdoors. Market stallholders, nursery and garden centre teams, car yard staff, event crew and surf club volunteers. A matching hat ties the team together. It's also one more piece of sun protection for people who are outside all day.
Where a straw hat doesn't belong: anywhere hard hats are required, or in roles where a hat may snag in machinery. For crews who need a sized hat with a neck flap, look at our broad brim and sun hats, such as the Legend Life Sunmaster.
Rain and rough handling. The listing doesn't give care instructions or say how the hat copes with rain. If you're planning a wet-weather event, or a crew who'll wear the same hat hard every day, ask us before you order, as a fabric hat may be the more practical choice. Our bucket hats guide compares fabric hats for teams and clubs.
Sizing: one size, plus a chin cord
There's no size chart to work through. The listing describes the hat as one size fits most, with an elastic sweatband to take up the difference. The chin cord and slide toggle are what keep it on your head on a windy day at the track or the showground.
If you're ordering for a mixed group, think about who'll be wearing the hats. The listing says one size fits most. If a large share of your group are young kids, or people who know they need an unusually large hat, ask us about it before you order.
Why the logo goes on a badge
Woven straw is uneven and full of small gaps. As a rule of thumb, decorating straight onto it gives a rough, broken edge to anything but the simplest shapes. A badge gives your logo a flat, even surface to sit on, so lettering stays crisp. The listing allows one badge position, and our product photo shows it on the front of the crown.
The artwork area is up to 10 cm wide and 6 cm high, so it's a landscape shape. That has a couple of consequences for your logo:
- Wide logos fit well. A business name with a small symbol beside it fills the space nicely.
- Tall or square logos end up smaller. They're scaled to fit the 6 cm height, which leaves empty space at the sides. If you have a horizontal version of your logo, with the name beside the symbol rather than under it, that usually works better.
- Keep the fine print off. Taglines, phone numbers and web addresses get very small at this size. Your logo and name are what people will read from a distance.
- Think about contrast. Your logo sits on a badge against natural-coloured straw. If your logo colours are pale or close to straw, mention it when you send your artwork and check how it reads on the proof.
Getting your artwork ready
A vector logo (EPS or AI) is best; our FAQ page lists the other file types we accept, and our design team can set out a text-only badge, such as a club name and year.
If all you have is a logo saved from a website or a social media post, send it anyway. Our design team will tell you whether it will work or what's needed instead.
How ordering works
- Choose your pack quantity on the listing and complete checkout.
- When we receive your order, we'll send instructions on where to send your artwork.
- You'll receive a proof of your straw hat. Check the spelling, colours and layout carefully. The listing sets out how many changes are included at proof stage.
- Once you approve the proof, your order goes into production.
If you have a fixed event date, ask us about timing before you order, and leave yourself room to review the proof properly. The listing also asks you to enquire if you need more hats than the largest pack.
